Terms of service

The terms for using Gustline. Please read them with your wind management plan in mind.
Who provides Gustline
Gustline is provided by Will Roxby, trading as Gustline (“we”, “us”). Contact: hello@gustline.co.uk.
These terms apply when you or your organisation use Gustline (“you”). Gustline is for businesses, councils and other organisations, not for consumers. By signing in you agree to these terms on behalf of your organisation.
What Gustline does
You pin your site, add each temporary structure with its rated gust limit and choose who gets alerts. From seven days before your event, Gustline checks the Met Office forecast for your site every six hours, and every hour in the last three days before it and while it runs. When forecast gusts come within 5mph of a limit we email and text your recipients, and again when the level changes. Every alert is logged.
Fair use
Gustline shares one daily Met Office forecast allowance between all customers. If one account's use threatens checks for other customers, we may check that account's routine events less often. Events at Amber or Red and events in their final three days are never checked less often.
What Gustline is not
Gustline is a forecast-based alerting aid. It does not replace your wind management plan, your site checks, anemometer readings on site, the manufacturer's guidance for your structures or the judgement of competent people. Met Office forecasts can be wrong, and local gusts can be stronger than forecast. An alert can arrive late or not at all, for example if a provider fails or a phone has no signal.
You stay responsible for every decision about your event and your structures, including whether to take them down or close. The limits you enter should come from each structure's certificate or manufacturer. The typical figures we suggest are a starting point only.
Your account
You sign in with a link sent to your email. Keep access to that mailbox secure, as anyone who can read it can sign in. Make sure the event details, limits and recipients you enter are right and up to date.
Plans and prices
Nothing is checked until it is paid for. There are three plans:
- Per event, £19. One event of up to 14 days at one site, watched until it closes. A one-off payment.
- Season pass, £99 a season. Every event on your account with dates in that season. Winter runs from 1 October to 31 March and summer from 1 April to 30 September. You can buy more than one season at once. A one-off payment with an invoice.
- Year pass, £179 a year. Every event on your account. Renews each year until you cancel.
Included in every plan: wind, ice and frost, heavy rain, heat, fog, snow, thunderstorm risk (forecast), flood warnings (England). Each weather alert is on for a new event unless you untick it. Ticking or unticking them never changes the price. Ice alerts use the forecast air temperature, which is not the temperature of the ground, so they are a risk estimate and not a gritting decision. Thunderstorm risk alerts are a forecast chance from the Met Office. They are not live lightning detection and Gustline does not detect strikes.
Flood warnings come from the Environment Agency, whose service covers England only, so they are not offered for sites in Wales or Scotland. Gustline passes on the alerts and warnings in force for the flood areas within about 1km of your pin and cannot check or add to them. The Environment Agency says its open data should not be relied on for safety-critical use and does not replace its own flood warnings. Sign up for those too. This uses Environment Agency flood and river level data from the real-time data API (Beta). The data is published under the Open Government Licence.
A pass also covers events you add later. Stripe shows the total before you pay. A pass is for your own organisation's events. Please don't use it to watch events for other organisations.
Changing a paid event
A £19 event covers the days and the site it was paid for. You can move the pin up to 1km, and you can move the dates once, for example if the event is postponed. A different site or a second move needs its own plan.
Fair use
An account can have up to 30 events watched at the same time. Further events wait for a slot and start being checked when an earlier one closes. Email hello@gustline.co.uk if you need more at once.
Paying and cancelling
You pay by card through Stripe. If you would rather pay by invoice or bank transfer, email hello@gustline.co.uk and we will set you up.
You can cancel a year pass at any time from Billing in the app. It will not renew, and your events keep their cover to the end of the year you have paid for. The per event and season plans do not renew, so there is nothing to cancel.
Refunds
We do not refund unused time or part of a period, including when you cancel a year pass or your event finishes early.
If a fault on our side meant Gustline did not check your forecast, or did not send an alert it should have sent, tell us within 30 days. We will refund what you paid for the affected event. For a season or year pass we will refund a share in proportion to the days affected.
A refunded or disputed payment ends the cover it paid for.
Acceptable use
When you use Gustline you agree to:
- only add the email addresses and mobile numbers of people who have agreed to get alerts from Gustline
- remove anyone who asks to stop getting alerts
- use Gustline only for wind alerts for real events and sites
- not try to break, overload or get around the security of the service
- not copy, resell or scrape the service or its forecast data
We may suspend an account that breaks these rules. We will tell you why by email.
Availability
We aim to keep Gustline running at all times, but we provide it on a best effort basis. It depends on the Met Office and on the providers that send our emails and texts, and it may sometimes be unavailable for maintenance or for reasons outside our control. We do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or free of errors.
Our liability
We are not liable for decisions you make about your event. Nor are we liable for any cancellation, closure, lost income, injury or damage to structures or property that follows from those decisions. We are not liable for any indirect or consequential loss.
Our total liability to you for anything arising from Gustline is limited to the fees you paid us in the 12 months before the claim.
Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot be limited by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence and liability for fraud.
Personal data
Our Privacy notice explains what personal data we collect and how we use it.
Ending the service
You can stop using Gustline at any time and ask us to close your account. If we decide to stop providing Gustline we will give you at least 30 days' notice by email and refund any time you have paid for but not used.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. If a change matters to you we will email you at least 30 days before it takes effect. If you keep using Gustline after that, the new terms apply. The date at the top shows when they last changed.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales deal with any dispute.
